Rapid First Article Inspection Presented by Verisurf at Westec 2007 Los Angeles

This year at Westec, Verisurf Software, Inc. will demonstrate how they are transforming first article inspection and quality control with modern metrology solutions that allow inspectors to complete the task in minutes instead of hours or days.

Boosted by current advancements in metrology hardware technology and the push by major aerospace and automotive manufacturers to move towards a fully integrated, top-to-bottom process of model based definition (MBD), Verisurf has created a considerably leaner process for performing first article inspections (FAI). Using Verisurf’s powerful CAD/CAM-based inspection software along with a modern metrology device such as portable coordinate measuring machines (PCMMs) from companies such as Romer Cimcore and Faro Technologies, inspectors are able to complete first articles both quickly and accurately. More and more, aerospace prime contractors such as Boeing and Lockheed Martin, are requiring that vendors prove their capabilities for MBD in order to be approved suppliers. These companies have recognized Verisurf as one of the best solutions for compliance with MBD requirements and completion of a fully “digital thread” throughout the enterprise.

The latest release of Verisurf, Version 9.1 R28, includes built-in MBD capabilities beyond all others. Verisurf MBD allows for import and use of GD&T tolerances and constraints from popular CAD systems including Catia V5 and Unigraphics. This advanced capability is one of the main reasons Verisurf was chosen by the Boeing 787 program, where they coined the term for it, “Interactive GD&T”.
